Position title: Occupational Medicine Physician
Dr. Sally Wilmeth oversees the Campus Occupational Medicine program. The original intent of the program was to develop and implement Medical Response Plans for exposures in the campus research community. The focus has since expanded to include the UW campus Facilities, Planning and Mgt staff, students, or other campus employees who have occupational exposure risks in their work. Her department covers evidence-based clinical evaluation and treatment of injuries and illnesses that are occupationally or environmentally related including, but not limited to infectious agents or toxins, animal allergens, hazardous materials, zoonotic infections, and blood-borne pathogens.
Clinic physician-based services provided on site include respiratory or animal allergy clearance evaluations, pre-placement physical exams, hazardous surveillance or exposure exams, and reproductive exposure evaluations. Other clinical services provided in the occupational medicine department include respirator fit testing, preplacement infectious disease screening, provision of vaccines pertinent to specific work exposure risks, and management of campus exposure incidents, etc. Dr. Wilmeth serves as a preceptor to preventive medicine residents for the elective in environmental health/occupational medicine rotation. This rotation includes both time in the occupational medicine department and with various campus Environmental Health and Safety staff activities.
