Jonathan Patz, MD, MPH, is Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor, John P. Holton Chair of Health and the Environment, and inaugural director (2011-2022) of the Global Health Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Professor Patz is an elected member of the US National Academy of Medicine for his pioneering research on climate change and human health, and he runs the Climate Solutions for Health lab on campus. Dr. Patz has taught and conducted research on the health effects of climate change and global environmental change for nearly 30 years. His faculty appointment is jointly with the Department of Population Health Science and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. Dr. Patz is double board-certified, earning medical boards in both Occupational/Environmental Medicine and Family Medicine and supports the UW Preventive Medicine Residency by presenting during rounds and serving as a preceptor on an environmental health research elective.
