The big news this summer was the graduation of our ninth cohort of residents and welcoming our new residents in the 11th cohort in July.

In June, we had a wonderful celebration recognizing our graduating residents, fellow, and award recipients. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Stu Berry, DO, MPH is now Associate Medical Director, in the Occupational Medicine Program, at Mercyhealth in Janesville, WI. In this position, he provides patient education, clinical services, and in-service training programs, as well as assisting in the strategic direction and plan for Mercyhealth Occupational Medical Program. He joins another graduate of our program, Sabrina Murphy, who is currently working at Mercyhealth as an occupational and preventive medicine physician. LinkedIn

Isha Jain, MD, MPH is now the Division Chief, in the Division of School Based Services, in the Baltimore County Department of Health, Maryland. On her LinkedIn page, she shared, “I’m so happy to share that I recently started a new position as Division Chief of School-Based Services at the Baltimore County Department of Health! This role is the perfect alignment of my various interests, and I get to work with an amazing team. Looking forward to learning and growing in this public health role!” LinkedIn

Josh Hoffner DO, MPH completed his Preventive Medicine Fellowship in August 2024 and has accepted a position as a public health physician and Assistant Director of Infectious Diseases with the Connecticut Department of Public Health. In this position, he will lead the HIV/STD/TB & Hepatitis C surveillance programs.

Faculty Update

Our program faculty and alumni have also been active in scholarship and community engagement, including:

Dr. Henry Anderson attended our graduation and continues to support our residents through his generous financial contributions. This year, our two graduating residents received stipends to help defray the costs of preparing for and taking the board exams in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine. (pictured left)

Dr. Salisbury-Afshar published a paper in the AMA Journal of Ethics etitled “How Should Harm Reduction Be Included in Care Continua for Patients With Opioid Use Disorder?” and was featured on the accompanying podcast to discuss the main points.

Dr. Remington was interviewed in a story, entitled “Vape industry thrives in Wisconsin amid health concerns.”

Dr. Mora-Pinzon (UW PMR ‘17) was interviewed in a story entitled “‘They call it the longest goodbye’: South Beloit woman on losing father to Alzheimer’s.”
